The wireless home weather station features a newer, faster IT transmission time of every four seconds for outside weather. The weather forecaster can also read outside temperatures down to negative 39.8-degrees. Atomic time and date, as well as outside temperature, inside temperature, and inside humidity are all clearly displayed on the easy to read digital face. The weather station is made of plastic with a modern silver finish complemented by cherry finished panels for a sophisticated look! Assembly level/degree of difficulty: No Assembly Required. Amazon.com Review Aspiring meteorologists and will be thrilled with this La Crosse Technology wireless weather station. Ideal for darkrooms, greenhouses, or other environments that require a consistent temperature reading, the WS-7014CH records indoor temperature, humidity, and remote temperature as measured by the included TX37U-IT remote sensor. For those who need multiple temperature readings, the unit is compatible with up to three remote sensors, and displays the information in both Fahrenheit and Celsius. If gauging current temperature isn't enough to satisfy, the station also forecasts upcoming weather conditions based on changing air pressure, employing several user-friendly icons, such as clouds, raindrops, or the sun, in the display. The forecast is approximately 75 percent accurate for 12 to 20 hours. Like all La Crosse Technology products, the included clock and date indicator receive their readings from the U.S. atomic clock in Fort Collins, Colorado, ensuring that the time is always 100 percent accurate. In addition, the weather station stores both daily maximum and minimum temperatures in its memory. The remote sensor is accurate up to 330 feet away with no obstructions, and approximately 50 to 65 feet away if exterior or interior walls block the weather station. Other features include a 12- or 24-hour time mode and an air-pressure tendency arrow. The unit is comfortable either hanging on a wall or free standing and measures 3-1/2 by 5-1/2 by 1-1/4 inches (W x H x D). Both the display unit and remote require two AA batteries. Opening with Clara Rockmore's reworking of Tchaikovsky with the theremin, and finishing with one of Brian Eno's ambient soundscapes, OHM artfully succeeds in its goal of giving a representative (as opposed to the impossible, comprehensive) overview of the first several decades of electronic music. Over 3 discs, 42 compositions, and 96 pages of notes and photos, OHM clearly illustrates the producers' and contributing writers' point that early electronic music is much of the foundation of contemporary music. Herein lies the connective tissue bridging musique concrète, 20th-century classical, electronic experimentation, and the theoretical avant-garde to psychedelia, ambient, dub, techno, electro, and synthpop and the globalization of sound. The groundbreaking uses of loops, sampling, drones, remixes, and cut-and-paste technology are put fully into context. The diversity of music included makes any sort of summation impossible, but that is also the point: electronic music is not really a genre, but an open field of endless possibility. From John Cage's famous "William's Mix" of tape snippets to Karkheinz Stockhausen's electronic orchestral compositions, from David Tudor and Holger Czukay's experiments in unrelated blendings of audio elements to David Behrman's supremely peaceful duet between computers and musicians, the aural renegades on OHM tread where none (save a few of their contemporaries) had gone before. The liner notes convey the incredible amount of hard work and experimentation it took to stitch together many of these pieces in the predigital era. Putting aside the inevitable quibbles about what's missing (much of it due to legal and/or logistical issues), a more complete collection of musical eggheads, eccentrics, and visionaries is hard to imagine. --Carl Hanni |
